The literary salon will be followed by an 8 p.m. performance of 'Loot,' a madcap British farce about two bank robbers attempting to hide their stolen fortune.

Bridgeport's Bijou Theatre to Host Classic Horror Originals this Month


lthough much maligned, the horror remake is not always the worst thing in the world. It seems that remaking the classics of horror has been Hollywood's favorite shortcut for decades, but every now and then, they get it right. Two great examples of this would be John Carpenter's 1982 film, The Thing, and David Cronenberg's 1986 film, The Fly. This month, Brian Solomon of TheVaultofHorror.netpresents BEDLAM AT THE BIJOU: Before They Were Remakes, a screening of the two 1950s originals that inspired those films.

The Amoralists Announce Derek Ahonen Talkback, 7/15


The Amoralists announced today that the group will be presenting a post-show talkback on Sunday, July 15 with playwright Derek Ahonen. Joe Meyers of the Connecticut Post will moderate the discussion, which follows the 2pm performance. The Amoralists are currently presenting the critically acclaimed World Premiere of Ahonen's The Bad and the Better, directed by Obie Award winner Daniel Aukin.

Dayton Playhouse Closes the Curtain on GYPSY, 5/23


Dayton Playhouse will close the 2009/2010 Mainstage Season, Gypsy on May 23. Gypsy is the classic tale of the infamous Gypsy Rose Lee adapted from her 1957 autobiography. The Gypsy libretto is by Arthur Laurents with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and music by Jule Styne. The Dayton production is directed for the Playhouse by Brian Sharp with musical direction from Ron Kindell, choreography by Chris Erk, lights by Anita Bachmann, sound by Tony Fende, costumes by Marilyn Johnson, stage management by Wade Hamilton and set design by Chris Harmon.

The Amoralists Present AMERISSIAH At Theatre 80 St. Marks, Begins 6/3


Riding high from their last two wildly successful productions of Happy In The Poorhouse and The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side, The Amoralists presents the Off-Broadway Premiere of Amerissiah, written and directed by Derek Ahonen. Amerissiah runs from June 3 to 28, 2010 in a limited engagement at Theatre 80 St. Marks, located at 80 St. Marks Place between 1st and 2nd Avenues in NYC. Previews begin June 3 for a June 5 opening.
