A reading of Xanadu — based on the 1980 film of the same name — will be presented on April 21 in Manhattan.

The reading will feature Kerry Butler as Kira, a reincarnation of one of the Greek muses, who encourages two friends to build a roller disco. The film, a cult favorite, featured Olivia Newton-John as Kira, as well as Gene Kelly as Danny.

Douglas Carter Beane (The Little Dog Laughed) penned the book for the production. Songs for the musical are from the movie's soundtrack; they were written by John Farrar and Jeff Lynne.

Butler, who is currently seen as Claudia Reston on "One Life to Live," has appeared on Broadway in Hairspray, in which she originated the role of Penny Pingleton. Other Broadway credits include Little Shop of Horrors, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast and Blood Brothers. She is also known for her work in Off-Broadway's Bat Boy and in the San Francisco production of The Opposite of Sex.
