The Astoria Performing Arts Center has announced Willy Russell's (Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine) BLOOD BROTHERS, musical staging by Christine O'Grady, musical direction by Julianne B. Merrill, and directed by Tom Wojtunik. BLOOD BROTHERS will play a limited engagement at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (30-44 Crescent St, Astoria, NY 11102. Entrance on 30th Road.) Photo Blast from the Past: Adrian Zmed

Today, we're featuring Adrian Zmed circa 1988. His first major acting gig was the role Danny Zuko, in the national touring company production of Grease. He later appeared in the Broadway stage musical three times, twice in the role of Zuko. In the original Broadway production of Grease, he starred with Jeff Conaway, who played Kenickie in the 1978 motion picture Grease. Zmed returned to stage work in the 1990s, headlining the musical Children of Eden at the Paper Mill Playhouse, and starred in three shows on Broadway: Falsettos, Blood Brothers, and Grease. 'Blood Brothers,' one of the longest-running musical productions in the history of theater, is onstage at West Springfield's Majestic Theater now through October 28, according to Producing Director Danny Eaton, who also directs the play. Walnut Street Theatre concludes its landmark 203rd season with an all-new production of Broadway's BUDDY: THE Buddy Holly STORY. Directed and choreographed by Casey Hushion, the show began previews on May 15th and opens on May 23rd, running through July 15th on the WST Mainstage. Christopher Sutton (Buddy), says this is the first time in the history of the Walnut Street Theatre that the same actor has played the same role twice. Ryan Kelly started singing publically at age seven, taught himself to play the guitar at age thirteen and began writing his own music not long after. He joined a well known local band, and won a place as a finalist in the National BBC Television 'Country Cool' competition-where he placed second in the finals. Ryan's performed live with West Life, Girls Aloud and Simply Red in the 'Children In Need' televised charity concert at the Odyssey in Belfast, sung the US National Anthem for his beloved Boston Celtics, and has performed for the US President and his family at the White House.
