2Cents Theatre Group Announces Plans to Benefit HIV/AIDS Organizations With RENT

2Cents Theatre Group has announced that its production of Rent, Jonathan Larson's legendary Broadway smash hit that is now celebrating its 20th anniversary, will benefit four different HIV/AIDS research and support organizations during its run. Beginning on May 30, a percentage of each weekend's gross sales will be donated to AIDS Project Los Angeles, AIDS Research Alliance, Being Alive, and Alliance for Housing and Healing. Directed by Kristen Boule, with musical direction by Morgan Fitch, Rent opens on Friday, May 24. (more...)

MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT Opens 6/14 at the Athenaeum Theatre

Monty Python's Spamalot is a musical comedy 'lovingly ripped off from' the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Like the film, it is a highly irreverent parody of the Arthurian Legend, but it differs from the film in many ways. The original 2005 Broadway production, directed by Mike Nichols with Eric Idle writing the musical's book and lyrics, won three Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical of the 2004-05 season and received 14 Tony Award nominations. The Concerts for City Greens Kicks Off Sixth Season, 5/29

The 6th Season of The Concerts for City Greens, free outdoor concert series, commences on Wednesday, May 29th at 6:30 pm (Rain date: Thursday, May 30th at 6:30pm.) at Tudor City Greens, with 'I Feel So Much Spring,'and will feature professional performers from Broadway and the New York City Cabaret, jazz, classical and opera scene. Roberta Miles, the "Loose Chick" will be starring in and presenting an hour long performance based on her experiences through life. This juicy, gutsy, balsy, cutting edge look at life through the eyes of three femme fatales will be presented at Uncharted Books. The performance is Friday, June 14th @ 7:15pm. Come to the Cabaret…The Absinthe Cabaret, that is. Saturday night was the inaugural event of the newly formed Absinthe Cabaret in Franklin, TN. Executive Producer, Carolan Trbovich lined up a fantastic first event, with Broadway star Eden Espinosa headlining, and theatre and stage musician Johnny Rodgers hosting. Eden is best known for her roles as Elphaba in Wicked, for playing Maureen in the final cast of RENT on Broadway, and for originating the role of Brooklyn in the musical Brooklyn. Johnny Rodgers has toured with Liza Minnelli and appeared on Broadway with her during her show, Liza's at the Palace. (more...)
