Hi everyone! I hope everyone's having a good day! I just have a few quick questions that some of you will hopefully be able to answer. I'm a student from Nashville currently studying in London for the semester, and I'm hoping to get the most out of my five months abroad by seeing as much theatre as possible. Theatre tickets are not cheap to come by, I've quickly realized, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about the cheapest way for a student to get some tickets.
I've already learned about the "day of" tickets that are offered at The National Theatre, which has worked out wonderfully for me so far (I got a front row center seat at Port a few nights ago for just £12). Are there any other theaters that offer a similar policy?
Also, I know that in New York the student rush is very popular for most of the high profile plays and musicals, and I was wondering if many West End shows had the same deal. I couldn't find much information about this from the websites I checked, so maybe you guys will be able to offer me more help.
Finally, I was hoping there would be a few suggestions about what you guys think is the best discount website or ticket booth. I've already used getintolondonthestre.com and one of the booths in Leicester Square, but maybe some are better than others?
Follow @BargainTheatre on twitter as they share lots of good deals.
Audience club has a £4 membership at the moment, they are a papering service mostly for fringe stuff.
Its always worth asking at the box office for a discount, unless its a major sell out. If you know a show isnt selling well buying a cheap ticket will often get you upgraded, especially mid week.
Donmar have £10 seats for sale on mondays online for the following 2 weeks.
Thanks for your help, everyone! I've looked in to the day tickets a little bit more and it seems like there are some really good deals!
So far I've seen some of the more mainstream shows (Wicked, Les Mis, Viva Forever, and The Woman in Black), and I also saw Port a few nights ago at the National Theatre. I enjoyed them all with the exception of Viva Forever, but I'm sure that won't surprise many of you. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get a day ticket for The Effect, so hopefully I'll be able to get in line in time!
Hi again everyone! Sorry to bump this up again! I just have a quick question about Mamma Mia.
I went the the Mamma Mia box office last week to ask if they offered any day seats, and the man working told me that they offer a few for 20 pounds at every performance. I went back today to get one and a different man was working, who told me that the show does not and has never offered day seats. Any idea which man was wrong? Haha.
