According to a full page advert in this months Empire magazine (think this is the first time ive seen a musical advertised in there) all performances from 25th feb to 2 jun are sold out
According to seetickets.com there are still tickets available in May, albeit limited, and midweek matinees seem to be still available in April and May. I've no doubt this show will sell well and be a hard ticket to get if not booked in advance though. I remember when Cats, Phantom and Les Miz used to be booked out months in advance but in recent years there always seem to be tickets available for most shows without having to book too far in advance. The only other show at the moment that it seems hard to get tickets for is Matilda.
I wouldn't be surprised if the show sells out like Broadway. There for the best seats for like a pair of two for non-premium seating, you have to book for April or May for best availability. Or you could just pay for the $477.00 premium ticket. If the West End production ends up like that it would be an incredible milestone for the show.
How the West End operates ticketing it's very hard for shows to do that.
The West End likes to have an advance, so gives allocations to agents and puts more focus on groups and ticket deals. Broadway tends to operate more on the week so if it takes off the show can control more and not worry about what's been bought in advance and can do higher seat prices, if it doesn't sell however shows come off quickly as nothing is in the bank, hence why you get more sudden quick closures.
I don't understand why they are only selling tickets until the end of May. Virtually ALL new shows have a first booking period of at least six months. I have been waiting for ages to book tickets for June. If they now boast "all performances sold out till June" it's simply because people can only book for a very limited period.
Posters on the London tube screamed "Previews Sold Out!" in early December already. I think they're trying very hard to manufacture a "sold out hit" with these tricks.
I imagine they'll release new tickets once the show gets underway, it's probably not surprising the previews sold out, they did a presale back in June which is how I got my tickets.
I do think it'll start to sell out once the reviews come in but they've got to be careful as the dynamic pricing on Broadway may backfire on the producers if they try it in London.
When the reviews come out and I just can't wait for that, I am even thinking of starting a mind boggling 6 threads just for the reviews in just over a couple of months time.
they're doing it so the first few months are sold out, creates hype, can't get a ticket and start booking months in advance... their not stupid at all!
Sold out except when they release the tickets they have been holding back! had email today from the mormon website offering additional seats for sold out performances up to the June 3rd period! I presume they will be amending the publicity to nearly sold out to keep the right side of the truth
and welcome to dynamic pricing, "premium" now extends back to row L, previously only to row H (we are in row J which was classed as standard when we bought them).
All first preview tickets £20, available in person only from box office tomorrow (Friday 8 Feb). I spy a "mega-queue at box office" photo opportunity prior to a new booking period announcement.
