Morphic Graffiti, the production company behind the brilliant staging of Wildhorn & Bricusse's JEKYLL AND HYDE at the Union theatre in 2012, will stage a revised version of Leslie Bricusse's SHERLOCK HOLMES musical at London's Hoxton Hall in 2013 (from April 10 to May 10).
Originally staged in the West End in 1988 (with Ron Moody in the title role) and revised for a production at the Bristol Old Vic in 1993 (with Robert Powell as Holmes), the 2013 production will feature "brand new material" and is billed as "A Music Hall Musical Of Elementary Magnificence". It will be directed by Luke Fredericks and its musical director will be Huw Evans (Rent at Greenwich, Merrily We Roll Along at Theatr Clwyd).

I loved this, talk about the perfect match of material to performance space. With a sense of history permeating the proceedings onstage and the building itself, it is impossible not to get caught up in the melodrama and fun, with even the darker moments played for laughs (yes the drug habit gets a mention, but not enough to scare the kids). Peppered throughout with classic illusions and with an interval singalong to encourage stragglers back from the bar, it is top notch entertainment for all the family. Leslie Bricusse must be mightily chuffed that he handed his baby over to Morphic Graffiti. Full bloggage at the link. The Revenge of Sherlock Holmes
