Beautiful Thing's 20th Anniversary

Jonathan Harvey's fantastic play will get a new production next year, at the Arts Theatre, starring Suranne Jones as Sandra. I can't wait to see this. I saw the original many times and the film even more!

I'm still in shock that its almost 20 years since the first outing of this play. Utterly brilliant in every respect and if you've yet to see it, my advice is GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shame its not the recent production at The Exchange in Manchester which was superb

I actually thought the royal exchange's production was the worst of the three I've seen. Although all the cast was fine, the addition of the chorus at the end just totally ruined it for me. It's a delicate little play and they poured bucketfuls of syrup over it.

Not the biggest fan of Suranne Jones, but probably will go and watch this if i can.

Although i do think Beautiful Thing is a fab play, i wish somebody would put on a production of one of Jonathan Harvey's other plays instead sometimes. I saw Rupert Street Lonely Hearts Club when it was on at the Contact in Manchester back in the mid(cough) nineties, and it absolutely floored me, beautiful piece of work.

Yep, I thought it was a great production slightly ruined by the naff ending.
