yes it is. shows dont tend to tour the uk unless they have closed in London or are of the mega hit variety. The Wicked tour has been in planning for ages, a friend at live nation first told me of the Manchester plans about a year to year and a half ago
Yep CATSNYrevival, first national tour. Its really quite rare for a London show to have a touring production open at the same time as in London. Only really the BIG shows do (Les Mis, POTO, Lion King and now Wicked), only a good few years after opening, and only for limited seasons in the major UK cities (Birmingham, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester, Bradford, Newcastle/Sunderland, Edinburgh, which have the large touring theatres with the facilities to hold the full London production.
The second national tours are generally much more 'transportable' and fit into most towns/cities venues, and are often redirected, or have different sets. The 2nd tour of Miss Saigon had video screens instead of a helicopter, for example.
I guess the UK is small enough for most people to make a trip of it to London.. whereas in the US its much much much larger.
