True but I would have thought Disney would want Aladdin to be in the New Amsterdam given that they own it but it could go to somewhere like the Marquis. 2014 is a while off so things could change.
With so many new shows opening between now and 2013, Disney might have problems securing a theatre for Newsies in London especially if they want one that has decent capacity and stage size.
Mary Poppins ticks over in the quiet times, but cashes in all its many chips in the summer tourist season and winter holiday season. I think it will be around for a while.
Think Disney will launch Aladdin on Broadway at a Nederlander house as there custom.
Anyway I guess the West End is in a desperate state, judging by all these short the double dip must be really biting.
I don't know how well the West End is doing, as we don't get to see the figures like Broadway does, my judgments is made up by assumptions with what I can see is what is happening, I based this assumption on how long shows are running for and if theatres are taking shows for short runs, I would guess isn't a good sign. As I said earlier we don't see grosses in the West End and I for one would wist the Society of London Theatre would publish grosses, in the same way as the Broadway league does.
On a different not another spot on call by Anything Goes.
I'd rather have shows do short runs than a theatre being dark for months like on Broadway. A lot of these short term shows have gone in due to new shows that have been lined up falling through, delayed or moving to another theatre,
I see your point and rather agree with you, but you have to remember on Broadway you have many theatres go dark by the beginning of January, but by the end of March those dark houses will be loaded in with a new show starting previews.
I still like to see the West End grosses still, but this will never happen over here because of the British stiff upper lip.
