Just had a look at the film website. There is an interesting extended first look piece which goes into detail about the live singing.

It does look good, and I'm intrigued and a little excited to see it on stage.

I've never been a great fan of this show-I'll probably regret typing that here (!) but it looks like a stunning film version perhaps the best musical on film we've seen in a long time...Also the possibility of Hugh Jackman in a good film I actually want to watch other than for looking at him makes me happy....

Hi folks - new to this board, but something 'dear to my heart!'
Good to be here !

Can't wait to see this film - the wonderful Hugh Jackman (as you say (in a 'good film') and Russell Crowe, how great for
Australia !
Am SO pleased that it was filmed in chronalogical order and with a 'live' sound track
Believe the release date is the same the world over !!
26th Dec (?)
Must say that Greenwich, London doubling for Paris and the Barricade looks amazing !!

Alas it wasn't filmed in chronological order, don't know if it was planned but the Thernadier scenes were filmed last due to... reasons ( can't remember why, it is 1am).

Also, release date is sadly different all over the world. We don't get in the UK till the 11th of January.

Some new footage from the Japanese trailer (bad quality, sorry) including first images of the Thenardiers. Now, didn't she use to make pies at Fleet street..

Movies are never filmed in chronological order. They typically do one set of scenes at at time. For example, let's say you have a movie that has a lot of scenes that are in a particular house. They would film all the scenes at said house in on period of time, regardless of their place in the movie. It's just easier to do things on one set and then you can edit it all together in the end. That's just how movies work. They are never filmed in chronological order.

And, I believe that Baron Cohen had another project lined up prior to his work on Les Miserables. That's why they waited till the end to film him.

Some of the cast were in doing additional vocals today so guess the soundtrack isnt going to be ready yet.

Additional vocals weren't for a soundtrack, it was ADR where they were recording additional sounds for the movie. From the sound mixer on the movie from another board:

http://jwsoundgroup.net/index.php?/topic/13657-les-miserables-live-singing/

>Hi Guys,

Thanks for the interest in this amazing project.I was very fortunate to be asked to record this movie as Tom Hoopers vision from the very beginning was a live musical, using the on set vocals as masters for the film and a very serious attempt not to replace any live vocals with ADR,as he feels the original
performances hold a truth and energy that can be lost during a re-record.

From the outset the whole movie was planned to avoid re-records and ADR,from set design to special FX. The Production Sound/Post Production Sound and Music depts were all one team who collaborated from the beginning to help Tom achieve his vision.

We had many tricks up our sleeve to achieve the highest quality singing possible on a movie set including 3 Boom Operators on main unit at all times who were part of a 7 man Production Sound Team.

What I can tell you is that there is zero ADR in the 'Extended Trailer' being spoken about on this thread and if we are to look at just one difficult sequence shown, which is Samantha Barks singing in the rain I can tell you how we achieved what you hear.

Every roof top and every piece of floor not in shot was covered with rubberised horse hair to deaden the rain hitting it.
Camera was covered with a 'horse hair roof' attached over the top of it to stop the noise of the droplets hitting the polythene bag keeping it dry. The camera dept were wearing ponchos made from black 'bolton' fabric over their wet weather gear to 'soak up' the sound of the water hitting them.Samantha Barks was wearing 2 radio mics, and they were changed on every take for fresh dry ones to eliminate possible moisture affecting the lavaliers.

The Special FX team made sure that the actual droplets falling around the camera were adjusted into a fine spray to reduce impact noise.

Every scene was approached with this level of attention to detail and when a Sound Dept has the director and the actors working with them and backing them up to try and achieve something extraordinary a lot can be achieved.

I really hope all the members here thoroughly enjoy the movie!

Regards to All

The trailer is impressive in my opinion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnLSG5t_dc8

I am intrigued to see whether Hugh Jackman has what it takes to play Jean Valjean, especially after Geronimo Rauch played him so epically in the recent cast at the West End. I am also eager to see how Eddie Redmayne will fair as Marius, after being so impressed with his performance in the TV adaptation of Birdsong. I am expecting big things, like everyone else and just hop the film does it the justice it deserves.

There was a new trailer I saw over the weekend when I went to see Skyfall...it wasn't any better than this, just longer.
