Just confirmed that Rebecca will not be opening on Broadway in November! This show seems cursed. SO gutted for the cast to have everything taken away from them at this late date. And SO gutted for me! I already booked a ticket!
The whole thing is completely bonkers. Possibly non-existent investors dying from malaria putting up £2 million in investment? Anonymous malicious e-mails? I really don't understand it.
Whenever - and wherever - the show opens in English, it will be a massive failure (the English lyrics are still terrible from what they sang at Bryant Park and it's a typical poperetta musically) But it will genuinely be disappointing if it never gets to that stage somewhere in the world.
yeah, I have to admit I've never been particularly inspired by the show per se - the songs I've heard from it sounded pretty mediocre. What did inspire me to buy a ticket was the amazing cast they had lined up - especially James Barbour (I would pay to hear him sing the phone book lol).
Luckily there are so many shows on Broadway at the moment (or about to open) that I won't have any trouble finding an alternative to see that night. It's just that the whole saga of the attempts to get this show to the stage is so bizarre.
Ben Sprecher shouldn't be allowed near a Broadway theatre again, I qualify that to off off Broadway even, the bloke is complete pond-life, who is always looking to find someone else to blame, to hide his own inadequacies as a failed Broadway producer.
