I dont think i could sit through this show again after the Bridewell production with Ria Jones. Terrible. I couldnt wait to leave at the interval. I hope they spend a bit more money on it at the Southwark Playhouse...
A very slight show given a terrfic shot in the arm by a spirited cast and talented creatives. It really brightens up a cold winter evening, but the score and book do leave a lot to be desired. I've blogged about it, which basically boils down to a five star production of a three start show. Victor/Victoria
Yes, the production outshines the show in this case but the two leads are terrific, the dancing is sensational, the jokes pretty much all land. I had a great time!
I thought Richard Dempsey was fantastic and Anna Francolini was at the top of her game as soon as she dropped the Julie Andrews impression.
The dancing was spectacular for a fringe production and it all made for an unashamedly enjoyable evening even if the book was so full of plot holes that it barely held any water.
2013: The Magistrate**** Singin in the Rain***** The Phantom of the Opera (UK Tour)**** Richard III**** Dear World** Chess**** Abigail's Party**** The Book of Mormon***** A Chorus Line**** Peter and Alice***** A Man of no importance***** 9 to 5: the musical** High Society****
I've enjoyed seeing Anna Francolini in the past. She was excellent in the Donmar's Company and delivered a strong performance in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie at the Edinburgh Festival a year or so ago.
I believe this is by the same people who did the recent excellent Mack and Mabel so this is definitely on my list of shows to see.
