I read an article recently written in 1994 at the height of the NT production of Sweeney Todd saying that they were going to make a Channel 4 musical feature film version of Sweeney back then with McKenzie as Mrs. Lovett and possibly Anthony Hopkins as Sweeney Todd... Did anyone else know about this rumor? The article stated they were going to be shooting on location, etc. Director of the NT revival, Declan Donnellan was going to direct it, with his National team behind him.. interesting. A real shame, that this production wasn't recorded either on tape or CD, because it is thought of as the definitive British revival of the piece. McKenzie's Mrs Lovett is glorious on any clips we have of her.
I have it in its entirety but I'm not inclined to make it available to someone whose rudeness and ignorance were sufficient to get a thread deleted earlier this week.
Would anyone be willing to share this recording with me? I would love to hear it and it would be very much appreciated! I've often heard how good this particular production was from different people.
I wasn't rude on the last thread, I don't know why it was deleted. Was it my fault that the thread was being hijacked by other people who weren't helping me with my enquiry.. Apologies if I offended anyone. I would be grateful to get a copy of that Sweeney though from someone who has it.
