There are rumours on Twitter that in addition to Chicago and Blood Brothers (I said these things come in threes!) The Lion King could close within the next year. There are speculative dates ranging between the end of 2012 and April 2013.
Anyone heard anything of this rumour? Since the huge tour is opening it could make sense for its London life to come to an end, but the rumour could just be that, a rumour.
2013 Theatre: Loserville ***** Merrily We Roll Along ***** La Bohéme (Royal Opera House Live) **** One Man, Two Guvnors (UK Tour) * Oliver! (UK Tour) ***** Lulu (Welsh National Opera) ***** Driving Miss Daisy (UK Tour) [x2] ***** Sexual Perversity in Chicago *** Madame Butterfly (Welsh National Opera) *** High Society (UK Tour) *** Singin' In The Rain ***** The Ladykillers (UK Tour) ***** Peter And Alice ***** A Chorus Line ***** Once *** A Chorus Line ***** GHOST: The Musical (UK Tour) **** The Great Gatsby (Northern Ballet) ***** RENT - 20th Anniversary Concert ** The Woman in Black (UK Tour) ** Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty ***** Lohengrin (Welsh National Opera) **** The Three Phantoms **** Wagner Dream (Welsh National Opera) * The Audience ****
This is almost certainly absolute bollocks. Lion King is one of the biggest hits in the West End and continues to have amazing year after amazing year. It's not going anywhere at the moment.
I can't see TLK going for a while yet, the tour's going to do massive business regionally but I imagine it'll remain a top choice for tourists and families.
