I understand there are a few younger people on here that maybe starting there August summer holidays and thinking of coming up to London to see a shoow or two.
May I recommend to you to go to the Open Air Theatre, Regents Park, one of the most delightful venues to see a theatrical productions, (weather pending, 8 shows cancelled already this season.)
You have two shows playing it repertoire the musical 'Ragtime' and Shakespears 'A Midnight's Summer Dream', only the second time it has been revived in London. A top notch cast do both shows.
I have seen both productions and both in different ways are delightful and I'm not even a Shakespear fan, but there is something about the open air, I can't put my finger on it, that makes a show very very special.
If going to a show at Regents Park don't worry about going for something to eat before hand, as inside the theatre you have the great picnic lawn with a barbeque one end, but you can take your own food in, as I did this week when I whipped over to Tescos Express in Baker Street and grabbed a sandwich, grapes, crisps and a drink, you could take in your own bottle of wine or formal picnic hamper, no one would bat a eye lid, just remember your bottle opener!
A great venue to see fine theatre, which is made better by the unexpected.

I've seen both shows this season, and I can honestly say that their current production Dream is amongst the greatest i've ever seen, and I've seen a lot! The production, is dark, but also very very funny! I don't remember the last time i laughed so much at a shakespeare, or when I have ever cared about Theseus and Hippolyta!
I got to see Ragtime last month and while some people spoke quite negatively I went in with an open mind (as it's my easily favourite musicals next to Side Show) and thought it was fantastic. It was my first open air theatre experience and there was something so magical about the final 20 minutes (which I think are some of the most exciting, thrilling moments in a musical) under a starry sky. I get way to excited to think of Fiddler On The Roof in the theatre, which hopefully, they'll do soon.

Absolutely loved this, made up for the slight disappointment of Ragtime last week. I'm not giving anything away agreeing with the My Big Fat Gypsy comments, but it really showed how creative updating of a classic can be a roaring success. loved the set too and David Birrell is a totally menacing violently manipulative Theseus. More on my blog for those with time on their hands on a Sunday morning. A Midsummer Night's Dream
