I've read decent reviews about Loserville but I'm not sure if it ready for the West End yet. Musicals tend not to do well at the Garrick for some reason.
Oh dear, such a shame that an original new musical (well almost) has such a terrible book. I know I'm way too old for it, but I really can't work out who they think their paying audiences are going to be. It has some decent songs but the story, dialogue and performances seem to be aimed at 12 year olds. Such a disappointment given Elliot Davis & James Bourne's enviable pedigrees. There's a bit more on my blog at the link for the sadists amongst you. Loserville
I caught a very slick preview this evening (with a fantastic stalls ticket which I won in their twitter competition) and wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.
I thought the book was fine (predictable and clichéd as a bad teen movie, but funny enough and charming enough that I didn't really mind) and the design concept was brilliant.
Admittedly, I'm probably their target audience based on my age.
It's a shame that shows can't be targeted towards young people on this kind of scale, if only because they aren't frequent enough visitors to the theatre to maintain it, and I hope that when this inevitably closes in a few months that it might have further life, even just so that it can continue to provide such fantastic opportunities for a cast of almost exclusively recent university graduates and promising young performers.
Kinda annoyed that Broadway World UK has allowed a review of this to go up on the news page when it's still in previews. It's one thing to comment on threads during previews (it's our right as paying customers) but it's quite another to have an official review go up.

To be fair, I thought the review was better than I expected the reviews for this show to be, so I wouldn't complain too much. Plus, it has had it's tryout and I can't see it changing much before the official opening (if it lasts that long!)
Not sure I can do a substantial review for this show but I had a great time and enjoyed the infectious youthful energy of the cast.
I'd pretty much echo what Mark Shenton said in his review. Hope it gets a good run and pulls in the younger demographic.
Also Stewart Clarke has some damn fine abs and arms on display and a great voice too. Pretty sure same person blow the roof off the JRB concert in August with "On the Deck of a Spanish Sailing Ship". Shallow point needs to be said!
