Since moving back to london its once or twice a week, mostly westend, one offs and some fringe. Tours not so much now, maybe more once I'm used to being back in town and caught up.
Usually once a week. I live in the North West so it's mainly regional and touring stuff. Then during my holidays, usually Easter, summer and Christmas, will head to London for some theatre marathons.
However, I have gone a bit overboard this year. Current count is 52 shows, 17 in the West End. Planning to see another 10 in London in August.
There no set rule, sometimes I can go months without going then do several in quick succession. I guess on average once every two months maybe. That tends to be split between touring and West End.
Amateur - never Fringe - very rarely, tends to be Menier or Donmar at most if I do
I've seen 23 shows this year so far, way down from last year where I saw 117 in total and the year before that where I saw 107. I guess I'm just being a lot more selective with what I see now.
I don't see amateur productions and only occasionally fringe productions.
I don't seem to have an average. I was in London at the end of January and saw a dozen shows. Then I saw one in Glasgow in February. Then nothing until the beginning of June when I saw another dozen in London. I've got one this Saturday in Glasgow. Then two in London in August. One in Edinburgh in September. Two or three in Glasgow in November then up to 8 in London in December. Totalling about 52 which would work out at one a week (so that's my average).
I can go weeks without seeing a show and then see 6 or more shows within a few days - but I guess it works out an average of 1-2 a week over a year. I see some local amateur shows and tour shows but generally I see shows when I'm able to get to London (and then see a lot during a few days). I've seen 30 shows so far in 2012 and will likely see a similar amount beween now and the end of the year (maybe even more as I will be going to the Edinburgh Fringe in August and hopefully New York in November).
I tend to see more Fringe than West End, mainly as I think that's where the best work is done on the whole - certainly the best (and almost only) place to see new writing in the UK.
In the first six months of this year I have been to the theatre 19 times:
2 x West End plays 3 x West End farces 1 x West End musical 2 x London fringe musicals 1 x national tour of a musical 1 x musical at a regional producing theatre 8 x plays at regional producing theatres 1 x local amdram musical
My Aviator below indicates how often I go to the theatre and what I have seen and what I think. But I like to get to a show about twice a week.
My shift work hinders me from seeing a lot of shows as I either start too early, so have to be in bed or finish work late, whilst theatre is in session. I tend to see a midweek matinee whilst on early turn and go up on the weekend, which I am not too keen on doing, as I travel to London for work every weekday, but the urge to see theatre is irresistible.
I am in New York where I hope to catch 19 shows in 10 days.
I average about once a week, but that includes work (I work FOH and/or seeing University productions for the teaching I do)
It's mostly touring productions and local new work (local to the SE Wales area)
I was averaging a trip to London a month/two months and when I do usually 4-5 shows over a few days. That's usually a balance between the big West End shows and fringe productions.
Living in London makes it easy. On average once a week for me, West End plus the smaller & fringe theatres, occasionally to one of the theatre schools. I'd go more often if I had someone else to go with! My partner doesn't care for the theatre I'm afraid.
