Looking forward to next year's Oliviers already lol! Hoping that Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton will be honored with Best Actor & Best Actress in a Musical for 'Sweeney Todd'... I also think Peter Polycarpou deserves to be nominated for Supporting Actor for his superb performance as the Beadle.
Any other productions that have opened that deserve nods for 2013's Oliviers?
I guess Sweeney Todd will not have The Open Air theatre in there way for their fourth Olivier for best revival, Ragtime although very enjoyable and well conceived, isn't as good as Sweeney Todd, but Kiss Me Kate certainly give it a run for its money, when it opens in the Autumn.
I reckon Sweeney will win, not sure on Kiss Me Kate. I wouldn't be surprised if the cutoff date for the Olivier is pushed back so that Book of Mormon is eligible otherwise the new musical nominees will consist of just Viva Forever, Top Hat and The Bodyguard.
Interesting. I predict Book of Mormon will sweep - I'd say It will win best musical and a couple of the acting prizes too. But Ball and Staunton are most likely favorites for Best Actor & Actress in a musical. (And revival).
It depends on when the cutoff date is (and I doubt they will push it back just so BOM would be eligible). It doesn't open till March 21st and my guess is that that's too late for the 2013 awards. The cutoff date this year was February 16th.
I think Sweeney could take quite a few awards... Best revival, best actor and best actress are probably (hopefully) theirs but I wouldn't be surprised if they took home best director, best set design and best lighting design as well.
