Yes, but the reason for that, at least in part, was they had got stung by Chitty and it's poor box office performance and they didn't want to risk another big budget family show. There may have been set issues too. Although considering how they squeezed the original Beauty and the Beast in there I'm sure they could have got Mary in.
More than a month for any show is a bad idea for Southampton, would love to see this come here, guessing the pricing structure might be a bit steep, though.
2013: The Magistrate**** Singin in the Rain***** The Phantom of the Opera (UK Tour)**** Richard III**** Dear World** Chess**** Abigail's Party**** The Book of Mormon***** A Chorus Line**** Peter and Alice***** A Man of no importance***** 9 to 5: the musical** High Society**** Priscilla: Queen of the Desert*** To Kill a Mockingbird***** The Bodyguard** The Audience**** A Little Night Music***
Yes it was pricey, and it ran from june through to end of August, with three child catchere I thnk, ending with a special short run of Richard O Brian. But Michael Rose was the producer and he and the mayflower were well linked then. He rarely discounts which doesn't help. Lots of people were surprised it came back a few years later
Southampton was condsiderd as an out of town tryout for Chitty until they decidEd to open in London straight away
Oliver only did three weeks as I recall, over two months for chitty is quite a different affair.
I'd love to see the Mayflower discounting for children, though, it seems to me they're doing nothing to try and get kids in theatres (Oliver had £5 off for under 18s?)

Producers set prices. Oliver did 4 weeks, pretty much all of May. Loads Of seats were left just before the run started but it started to sell as word of mouth spread. Wasn't as big though as other shows.
I don't know, or if I was told I've forgotten! May have been cost, I'm not sure. I don't know how quickly it got rejected, I just know the idea was looked at
Musical Boy - The Mayflower does often do very good deals for under 18's (£10 Avenue q, £14 42nd Street) and the discount is normally around half price, but it is obviously down to the producer.
The Mayflower is my local and after seeing The Lion King in the westend i would love the chance to see it twenty minutes away :)
