I'm hopefully planning a trip to go to London in September, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations of what to see? I was thinking probably "Matilda" as that seems to be the hot ticket right now, but also was wondering about "Singing in the Rain". I saw the film for the first time at Christmas and absolutely loved it, and from reports I have heard, this seems to be a first rate production. What would people on here advise? Also, are there any other shows that you think may be worth a look?

My family was on vacation in London in May and we saw "Singing In The Rain" and thought it was very good and lots of fun. I thought it was identical to the movie but must admit I have not see the movie in quite a few years. The dancing is excellent and we were close enough to get a little "wet" after Act 1. We also saw "Les Miserables" and thought it was good. My daughters love the musical so it was a must see in their opinion.

Do Sweeney, Singing in the Rain and maybe Top Hat - it's nice to have a bit of nostalgia!

I'd personally ignore Les Mis - as it's tired and can be seen anywhere (same with Phantom, Wicked, etc)

Certainly experience The Globe, The National and maybe hop on a trip to Stratford Upon Avon.

Enjoy!

If it's not necessarily a musical you're looking for, then I'd recommend considering Hedda Gabler at the Old Vic.

Apart from that, Singin' In The Rain is excellent.

And The Phantom of the Opera is by no means tired.

Les Mis, Phantom and Wicked are not tired, and Les Mis's case can not be seen anywhere as its the last remaining production of the original staging. Although I suspect you have probably seen them already and are talking about newer shows?

Matilda is very good (although not AS good as the hype suggests)
Singin in the Rain is the best production of that show I have ever seen with a great cast

Thank you all for your suggestions so far! You would be right in thinking I'm more interested in the newer shows. I manage to get to London quite a bit so I have seen all of the usual suspects such as "Phantom" (which on my last visit to the show WAS looking incredibly tired, and that was back in 200, "Les Mis" (where I most recently saw Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean and which was looking as fresh as ever) and "Wicked". On my last visit to London, I saw "Sweeney" which was one of the best live theatrical experiences I have ever had! A stunning revival of a stunning show!
