Julianne Moore is to star in a remake of the classic 1976 horror film 'Carrie'.
Julianne Moore will play the role of Margaret White, the mother of the teenage girl with supernatural powers.
'Carrie' will be played by 15-year-old Chloe Grace Moretz, "It's a modern-day retelling, not based in the '70s or anything." She said it would be "dark but exciting", comparing it to the 2010 Natalie Portman film 'Black Swan'.
The original 'Carrie' film was based on a novel of the same name by Stephen King. Sissy Spacek, who played Carrie, and Piper Laurie, who portrayed her mother, both received Oscar nominations for their performances.
The remake will be directed by Kimberly Pierce, whose previous films include Hilary Swank's 'Boys Don't Cry'. It is expected in cinemas in late 2013.
Moretz, who appeared in 'Hugo' and 'Kick-Ass', said: "What I'm doing with Kim Pierce is kind of breaking down the book. We're bringing a lot of the book into it and the psychology into it to really get into who she is."
'Carrie' story was also turned into a Broadway musical in 1988 - which famously flopped and closed after just 21 performances. The show was revived earlier this year.
Definitely something to look forward to i reckon. funnily enough the first thing i said after watching Black Swan was how much it reminded me of Carrie. Could be a very interesting take on the story, great leads too.
Don't get why its getting remade but at least the casting of the 2 leads is good, and anything from anyone who had an ounce to do with Boys Don't Cry is good by me.
The show is an Infamous flop because of a few things, first at the time it was the most expensive flop ever, the people involved were so great, it's the show everyone claims to have seen, and the show was heartbreaking because it had so much potential but was wasted with stupid choices.
Luckily the new production more than redeemed itself
I loved the new production, it had a few flaws but i think Carrie always will, but in general i actually found it quite moving (something i never thought Carrie the Musical would be) I also think the opening to the show (the brand new reworked IN) was nothing short of incredible.
I am glad its picked up a lot of award nominations it deserves it
Nah i dont think it will, it's up against Follies in all the best revival noms and the 2 leads are up against Broadway performers from major musicals (i wish they would split Off Broadway and Broadway) but it's great for them to be listed alongside Follies etc.
I did not mind the Texas Chainsaw Remake, i thought it was smart, well acted with a great performance by Jessica Biel, shot really well and pretty thrilling. However as a HUGE fan of Horror and Slasher films Amityville, Friday The 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Hitcher etc etc were all terrible and the originals were classics that should not have been touched.
Worse still with Carrie is that it already had a remake, a 3hr made for TV remake that whilst sticking closer to the book was pretty average (though fun to watch). Interestingly the TV remake has Carrie survive and set off with Sue Snell to run away from town. It was supposed to work as a pilot for a new TV series but never happened. It did have some very good performances but the terrible special effects killed it
It also had the disastrous sequel in the 90s called The Rage - Carrie 2 that saw a brand new girl (the wonderful Emily Bergl) who happened to be related to Carrie discover she also had telekinesis. The film saw Amy Irving from the original return playing Sue Snell again who is not a guidance councillor. The film was a critical and financial mess
Re. the musical - sadly never saw the original and could not get to New York this spring to see the revival. But loved the bootleg recording of the original score. Really looking forward to the recording of the new show.
Re. the movie - bored me silly lol. (not a fan of the genre to be honest) So doubt I'll be bothering with the remake. But would go see a production of the musical if it ever gets done over here (maybe amateur at least).

The movie, today, is almost unwatchable BUT back in 1976 when I saw it my local cinema full with nearly 2500 people it was a bloody nightmare, I didn't sleep for days!
The second time I saw it was at the same cinema a few years later on a double bill with 'Christine' ....i wouldnt get in the taxi to go home!!!
The movie today i think is still just as good i think, ive watched it many times, i think it stands up very well which is why it's constantly voted as one of the best genre films of all time.
And Phantom love, we know it scooped the award as i just posted ut right before you.
I saw the movie in the cinema in 1976 too. Just thought it was so ridiculously unbeleivable that it was not in the least scary. As the movie was so popular, I also read the book to see if there was anything I was missing - and that had the same effect on me lol.
