I wonder if this is a tour, or an out of town try-out? Would be nice if this was a brand new production for this country. It's not as if either American production is famous and in demand for this country like most cross-atlantic transfers!
I think this will be downsized a little and probably recreated. It seems to be doing The Wedding Singer thing. US Show starting in Manchester then touring the country hoping it will get in to the West End.
Will this not be part of the new ATG initiative where they try out 'new' musicals in Manchester and get them right before moving them into the West End?
It is highly likely that they will re-work the material, as they did on 'Legally Blonde' and attempt to create a show that works for UK audiences.
ATG are a bit like the J D Weatherspoons of theatre, where they own lots of premises which gives them great negotiation clout, which is great as they have power and skills to bring shows like this over.
On the downside all major tours seem more inclined to go into ATG houses now, such as The Churchill in Bromley, but my local theatre The Orchard in Dartford which now seems paralysed now by one night shows by comedians and former has-beens musicians and bands.
I do wonder how close they are to a false advertising issue. And it may sell tickets but they could be setting themselves up for a mass of complaints, refund requests, bad feeling and press.
