I found these videos of an interview with Arthur Laurents, Stephen Sondheim and set designer, Beni Montresor about their 1966 musical "Do I Hear a Waltz?" on the TV show "Camera 3" from shortly after the show opened. I thought a few of you may be interested in seeing it, so have posted the videos here.

I do not know much about the show but this makes it sound really interesting. I have listened to clips of the Original Broadway Cast Recording and some of the score sounds beautiful. What are other people's opinions of this show? Has there ever been a production in the UK or is there ever likely to be a production? I doubt it, but is anyone here old enough to remember the original production?

Thanks so much for that. The cast recording is played at least twice a week in our house, it is so good. I've never seen the show but it apparently doesn't work because the audience are unable to empathise with the unlikeable lead female character, I think Sondheim said someone like that would not be able to know the joy of music, which is a fatal flaw in a musical, but the CD is fantastic. I think the Landor did it a couple of years ago, but I never caught it.

I came across this CD on itunes at the weekend for the bargain price of 2.49! Gorgeous orchestrations..especially the title track. There are quite a few obscure shows on itunes at the moment for the same price. You just have to search through "original cast".

I have always loved this score. Bought the OBC (starring Elizaberth Allen & Sergio Franchi) on vynil MANY years ago and fell in love with it. More recently I got the CD of the 2001 Pasadena Playhouse production - with Alyson Reed and the fantastic Anthony Crivello (Kiss Of the Spider Woman, Phantom) in the leads. That recording has the bonus of having the restored song "Everyone Loves Leona", which was cut from the Broadway show and is not on the OBC recording.

Sadly I did not get to see the Landor production but I did manage to see the concert staging of the show in Ian Marshall Fisher's Lost Musicals season sometime in the 90s with the lovely Mandy Moore (West end Sweeney's original Johanna) as Leona.

I love the score (on both recordings) but have never had chance to see the show on stage.
