IDOL WATCH: The Final Judgment- Alaina vs. McCreery!
May 24, 2011
It's finally here! In what is sure to be one of the most highly rated events on television this spring, the final two American Idol contestants battled one final time tonight to earn the title of America's favorite performer. And let's hope viewers were prepared for a whole lot of twang, because tonight's season ten finale of the show was nothing if not a little bit country.
IDOL WATCH: And the Season 10 Finalists Are…
May 19, 2011
In just one week America will have crowned its next Idol. Months of Ford music videos, cheesy group mash-ups, slow country ballads, and Steven Tyler high notes have all lead to this moment, and though the final three contestants wowed me in last night's semi-finals, I'm not sure that Scotty, Lauren, and Haley are the finalists I would have predicted a few months ago- maybe not even a few weeks ago...
IDOL WATCH: Final 3 Battle to the Death!
May 18, 2011
The American Idol' semi-finals are here at last, and while I'm still mourning the loss of the King of the Scarf-tails, it's homecoming time for the remaining three contestants. That's right, after months of getting to know Scotty, Lauren, and Haley, this week we finally get to tag along as they were welcomed back to their hometowns in nothing less than superhero fashion- more of that to come tomorrow!
IDOL WATCH: The Final 3 are Revealed!
May 12, 2011
After last night's top 4 performance, there are few things that are clear in this competition. Steven Tyler relishes in the thought of a trendy feathered earring, and Lady Gaga must have a personal vendetta against pants. If there's one thing that's unclear, however, it's who the front runner is in this competition. I feel like this season is one of the few seasons where I can't pick a favorite based on talent alone. There's such a vast array of styles being offered, particularly in this top 4, that it's hard to compare them to one another.
IDOL WATCH: Final 4 Get Inspired with Leiber and Stoller
May 11, 2011
In what seems like eons since the American Idol contestants have had an interesting theme to play with, tonight they got a chance to sing songs from the extensive catalogue of Leiber and Stoller. And while tonight's theme selection has probably left most viewers scratching their heads, us theatre folk of course know that they're the guys who wrote hits like 'Hound Dog,' On Broadway,' 'Love Potion #9,' and 'Stand By Me.' Thank you, Smokey Joes Caf!
IDOL WATCH: Top 5 Becomes 4!
May 5, 2011
Just three weeks from now the American public will have dubbed their new idol, who will be one of five personalities that we've come to know and love- a scarf-tail lovin' rocker; a young, country heartthrob; a sassy, growling diva; a cutesy, southern powerhouse; and the guy who should play Effie in a gender-switched version of DREAMGIRLS. But who will it be?

IDOL WATCH: Top 5 Take on Now…and Then
May 4, 2011
It's getting down to the nitty gritty in Idol-land, with the season ten finale three mere weeks away. Three weeks! Where has the tie gone? While the bunch that's left certainly isn't the top five that I would have picked out, it's very difficult not to feel totally invested in their fates considering that I've been writing about their every move since January. I just love these kids!

IDOL WATCH: Top 6 Becomes 5!
April 28, 2011
After 9 surprisingly entertaining Carole King-inspired performances the top 6 contestants who we've come to know and love, became the top 5 on tonight's elimination show. But who would be the next victim? Ryan started out the night by stating that MANY would be disappointed by tonight's outcome and I had tragic flashbacks of the Pia-elimination that shocked the country. Please don't let it be James!
IDOL WATCH: Top 6 Duet to Carole King
April 27, 2011
After ten years of FOX dominating mid-week television ratings, NBC has finally responded to mega-hit American Idol' with its own vocal competition- The Voice.' It took them long enough! Premiering just last night, music stars Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton took a turn judging America's talent, seated in oversized revolving thrones that made Idol's panel look like a picnic table.
IDOL WATCH: Top 7 Becomes 6!
April 21, 2011
From a Casey -on-JLo smooch to a shockingly awesome performance from Ms. Reinhart, last night's episode of American Idol was chock-full of welcomed surprises. Beginning with the unexpected performance from the already eliminated half of the top 13, the shockers just kept coming- perhaps the best of which being the sudden harsher-than-normal criticism from the judges! Finally some legit guidance for the voters that need it!
IDOL WATCH: Top 7 Keep it Current!
April 20, 2011
After the great Pia Toscano debacle of 2011, last week's elimination of Paul McDonald was refreshing to say the least. Though I can't deny that I already miss his uncomfortably white teeth and the kooky way he pranced around the Idol stage, it was his time to go.
BWW Interviews: SISTER ACT's Sarah Bolt on Menken, Najimy & Being So Darn Happy
April 19, 2011
Sarah Bolt is currently starring as the kooky Sister Mary Patrick in the exciting new Broadway production of SISTER ACT. IDOL WATCH: Top 8 Sing Movie Tunes!
April 13, 2011
To say that last week's American Idol elimination was a shocker is the understatement of the century. In fact, Pia Toscano's untimely departure from the show seems to have left a bad taste in the mouths of Idol fans everywhere, with Pia being the subject of talk show chats and internet gossip all week. I for one, won't cease missing watching her on a weekly basis anytime soon.
IDOL WATCH: Top 9 Becomes 8; Injustice!
April 7, 2011
It seems too early in the competition for the finalists of American Idol to be so universally outstanding. Sure, last night's performances included both highs and lows, and true I'm attached to some of the competitors more than others. Quite frankly, I find it highly unusual that the top 9 are as polished as they are. Perhaps it's a reflection of the show's new mentors and/or judges?
IDOL WATCH: Top 9 Rock to Hall of Fame Songs!
April 6, 2011
Down to just nine performers, American Idol's remaining contestants have proven week after week that they make up perhaps the most talented bunch of finalists in the show's 10 season history. No complaints there, but such a statistic also means that even excellent performances tonight could warrant a ticket home.

IDOL WATCH: The Double Elimination; 11 Becomes 9!
March 31, 2011
'No more saves, no more exceptions, and no one can escape the outcome of your over 55 million votes.' Ryan Seacrest painted the perfect picture of tonight's episode right off the bat. With last week's dramatic Casey Abrams rescue, tonight became the first and only double elimination of the season.
