curious directive, Les Enfants Terribles & More Set for Free Shows in Lyric Square This Summer

Theatre-in-The-Square-20010101

The Lyric Hammersmith is collaborating with Latitude festival, Greenwich+Docklands International Festival and Watford Palace Theatre to bring a series of spectacular outdoor performances to Lyric Square from the 12th of June to 5th of July, thanks to the generous support of HammersmithLondon.

Five of the country’s most innovative theatre companies - curious directive, Les Enfants Terribles, RashDash, tangled feet, and nabokov - have been commissioned to make highly experiential outdoor theatre pieces, which will be presented for free in Lyric Square. The series will give spectators the chance to experience something new and unexpected as they pass through the square: a familiar smell that brings memories flooding back; a larger-than-life tea party or an important government committee…held on a bouncy castle.

Olfactory by curious directive
Tuesday 12 – Thursday 28 June

A one-on-one experience, Olfactory explores our relationship with smell, perfume and memory. Over 10,000 different smells drift across our planet in various configurations and each person has their own unique odour, their own formula. Olfactory gives you a choice to craft your identity as it takes you on a journey through the past and present to a potential future. curious directive is an acclaimed young ensemble of theatre makers using scientific ideas and devised theatre to encourage audiences to be curious about the world, peering through the lens of science.

Anyone for Tea? by Les Enfants Terribles
Tuesday 12 – Thursday 14 June

Follow the white rabbit and see how far it takes you, as you're invited to join in a Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Mix with Queens, Mad Hatters, and Tweedles Dum and Dee for this frenetic vision of Lewis Caroll's classic tale with a unique twist. Les Enfants Terribles are dedicated to creating original, innovative and exciting theatre that challenges, inspires and entertains by immersing audiences in weird and wonderful new worlds.

Set Fire to Everything!!! by RashDash
Tuesday 19 – Thursday 21 June

This will be the first time that acclaimed company RashDash have made outdoor work. With live music, frantic physicality and an enormous mess they take on the to-do list. RashDash make noisy, playful and passionate theatre using dance, story, music and song.

Inflation by tangled feet
Tuesday 26 – Thursday 28 June

A bouncy castle sits in Lyric Square. On it tangled feet will try to solve the recession, understand currency trading and keep the darn thing up. Every attempt at order and structure is undermined by the moving landscape and actions of others. Using an evocative soundtrack, physical theatre and slapstick comedy, they explore the uncertain ground our world is standing on. tangled feet is an award-winning ensemble of theatre practitioners making original work in their trademark style of experimental performance, physical improvisation and play.

Symphony by nabokov
Tuesday 03 – Thursday 05 July

In Symphony, theatrical narrative and live gig clash head on, combining three of the most stunning new writers in Britain today with the musical innovation of Ed Gaughan (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lyric/Filter; Weird Tales, Radio 4). The writers commissioned to create pieces are Ella Hickson (Precious Little Talent, Trafalgar Studios; Boys, Headlong), Nick Payne (Constellations, Royal Court; If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet, Bush) and Tom Wells (The Kitchen Sink, Bush; Me, As a Penguin, Arcola). nabokov makes work in response to immediately relevant social and political themes and is a forum for artistic collaboration and innovation, dedicated to cultivating a young audience and distributing work as widely as possible.
