On Thursday March 17, Iris Theatre will launch its new writing strand with a concert of new musical theatre songs at the Theatre in St. Paul's Church, Covent Garden, in what the company describes as "a night of musical invention and experimentation, a platform for a delicious variety of work across a broad cross-section of styles and themes", where the audience will "hear tomorrow's stars of musical theatre today".

Iris Theatre is a theatre company "dedicated to creating site specific work which uses epic spaces to house total theatre" and past productions have included Dido And Aeneas, Romeo And Juliet and Murder In The Cathedral. Press response to the company's work has included such comments as "fresh and immediate" (Sally Stott, The Guardian), and "a unique central London treat" (Ian Foster, The Public Reviews).

The evening, entitled "Workin Process 1 - New Musical Theatre Showcase", will include songs from musicals by Stiles And Drewe Award winner Mark Allcorn; 2009 MTM:UK Edinburgh Fringe Award winner Christopher Hamilton; Rose Lewenstein; Michael Dresser; and composer/lyricist writing team Tim Prottey-Jones and RoBert Gould (whose songs have recently attracted attention on the album "More With Every Line - The Music Of Tim Prottey-Jones", which is currently a "best-seller" at Dress Circle.)

The cast of performers is yet to be announced but it is stated that "secret West End musical guest stars are expected". The evening will be hosted by Hollyoaks and Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps star Natalie Casey, who states that she is "delighted to be able to support the musical theatre writers of tomorrow".
