Recently Vertigo Theatre Productions, one of ‘Manchester’s Premiere Fringe Theatre Companies’ announced they will be producing the first ever UK production of the smash hit Charles Busch Off Broadway play ‘Die Mommie Die’ which was also turned into a movie starring Busch himself.

Vertigo are thrilled to announce that they will be producing a SECOND Charles Busch play which is also a UK first with his long running Off Broadway smash ‘Psycho Beach Party’.
Both plays will go back to back in a double bill of Charles Busch Plays at Taurus Bar, Canal Street, Manchester. Die Mommie Die will open March 22nd and play that week, the following week Psycho Beach Party will open for 1 week. The plays are premiering during Taurus’ 10th Anniversary as one of the leading bars and fringe venues on Canal Street

“We could not be more excited” says Craig Hepworth the co-owner of Vertigo and director of the Busch plays “to be able to present one of these amazing plays for the first time in the UK is an honour, but to do two is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’m thrilled that we are getting to do this and UK audiences will get to experience the genius that is Charles Busch just like American audiences have.”

Casting is almost complete on the shows and includes Dale Vicker leading Die Mommie Die as Angela Arden, a role that earned Charles Busch a Sundance Film Festival Award.  Other cast in Die Mommie Die include Adele Stanhope as Edith, Tomas Lee Dunderdale as Lance, Terry Dixie as Tony and Dawn Mallitt as Bootise (More casting announced soon) and Emma Willcox leading Psycho Beach Party as Chicklet alongside Rick Carter as Star Cat, Mike Gates as Kanaka, Janice Hobday as Berdine, Louise Allen as Bettina, Neil Ely as Yo Yo and Adele Stanhope as Marvel Ann (More casting announced soon). Both plays are directed by Craig Hepworth

Die Mommie Die
Angela Arden, a fallen pop diva is trapped in a hateful marriage to film producer Sol Sussman. Desperate to find happiness with her younger lover, an out-of-work TV actor named Tony Parker, Angela gruesomely murders her husband with the aid of a poisoned suppository. Angela’s manipulative daughter, Edith, convinces her 'emotionally disturbed' brother, Lance, that together they must avenge their father’s death… by killing their mother!
A killer, Campy, Melodrama that pays homage as well as Parodies the 50s and 60s melodrama movies like Dead Ringer, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.

Psycho Beach Party

“Gidget”, Frankie and Annette beach party epics and Hitchcock psychological suspense thrillers such as “Spellbound” and “Marnie” are given a shotgun marriage.  Chicklet Forrest, a teenage tomboy, desperately wants to be part of the surf crowd on Malibu Beach in 1962. One thing getting in her way is her unfortunate tendency towards split personalities.  Among them is a black check out girl, an elderly radio talk show hostess, a male model named Steve and the accounting firm of Edelman and Edelman. Her most dangerous alter ego is a sexually voracious vixen named Ann Bowman who has nothing less than world domination on her mind.
An hilarious homage/parody of the 60s beach movies that the New York Times gleefully labelled ‘Gidget Goes Berserk!, and the associated press called “Fiendishly funny! Zany!”
