Vertigo Announce New Spin-Off Company And New Shows

Vertigo-Announce-New-Spin-Off-Company-and-New-Shows-20010101

Vertigo Theatre Productions have been bringing the Manchester fringe scene diverse new works and UK Premiere Productions of Off Broadway plays for over 4 years now and have enjoyed great success. From the team's award nominated original gay play OUT to the hard-hitting drama Rage and the highly praised thriller ‘M' the company have gone from strength to strength.

After their recent success with the camp comedy plays Die, Mommie, Die! (about to re-open at Sachas Hotel) and Psycho Beach Party by Tony Award-Nominated and Off Broadway legend Charles Busch, the team have decided to create a new offshoot company devoted to the more outrageous and campy side of the company. The new off shoot company will be named Vertigoes to Hell Productions.

"It's something we have wanted to do for a while," explains Craig Hepworth the in-house writer and director as well as co-owner of Vertigo. "We adore doing the campy outrageous stuff and seem to be in the minority on the fringe scene in Manchester when it comes to producing this kind of work, but we also love the dramas etc that we present. To make sure Vertigo retains its identity we decided that an offshoot company would be the perfect way to keep producing the more outrageous plays that our audiences love."

Vertigoes to Hell retains the whole team from Vertigo Theatre Productions (Hepworth, Adele Stanhope and Karl Burge) as well as adding Stuart Reeve as a fourth member. The first production by Vertigoes to Hell will be an alternative offering to all the other shows this Christmas. A send-up of the 70s and 80s slasher and exploitation films Christmas Sorority Massacre will open Nov 29th at Taurus Bar. The campy comedy will star Dale Vicker (Die, Mommie, Die), Jay Hobday (Pyscho Beach Party), Adele Stanhope (‘M'), Stuart Reeve (Dog Sees God) as well as newcomer to Vertigo Ryan McMyler (more casting to be announced soon) The play is written by Craig Hepworth and Stuart Reeve

The main company will be back next year with something big. Craig Hepworth and Adele Stanhope have been granted permission from American author and magazine editor Matthew Rettenmund to adapt his bestselling novel ‘Boy Culture' to the stage. This will be a world premiere for the company. The team are currently looking around for a venue in Manchester to open the show for a try out before moving on to an exciting venue.

"This is a huge opportunity for us," says Hepworth, "we are so excited that we get to bring this incredible novel to the stage. Most of next year will be taken up with the creating and producing of this play, it's going to be one of the most satisfying things we have ever worked on and the fact this is an LGBT novel is perfect for Vertigo due to our strong links to the gay scene."

Boy Culture further cements the company's reputation for bringing American work to the UK and that major writers have trust in the team.
