The BWW Q&A: Jack Shalloo Of HAMLET! THE MUSICAL

The-BWW-QA-Jack-Shalloo-Of-HAMLET-THE-MUSICAL-20010101

Welcome to a brand-new feature, where we find out more about the real person behind the theatre star. We start with Jack Shalloo, who's just finished The Kissing Dance and is about to return to the title role in Hamlet! The Musical.

When were you happiest?
I'm always happy!

What is your greatest fear?
To lose my hair.

What is your earliest memory?
Victoria Park with my nan and pop - sliding down the big slide

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?
The Joker from Batman.

Which living person do you most admire, and why?
I'm a big Gary Oldman fan. He's a fantastic actor and he represents for us Brits

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Impatience.

Property aside, what's the most expensive thing you've bought?
I've never really bought anything expensive but I do have around 500 DVDs.

What is your most treasured possession?
I have some posters and gifts from shows I did as a kid - I'd be pretty upset if I lost them.

Where would you like to live?
I'd love to live somewhere hot overlooking a marina, but I'd miss London.

What makes you unhappy?
Not having time to see my friends.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
My side profile!

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
I secretly like watching the Twilight films.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
The F word.

What is the best job you've done?
Our House UK tour - so much fun and a beautiful show.

Cat or dog?
Dog. I'm allergic to cats.

To whom would you most like to say sorry?
Most of my ex-girlfriends.

Who is your best friend in theatre?
James Muller.

Which living person do you most despise?
I don't despise anyone, life's too short.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?
I would have paid more attention at school so I could do my own accounts.

If you could go back in time, where would you go?
The 60s looked fun.

When did you last cry?
I cried at Matt Ryan's production of Rent with LSMT. He's a genius.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
More hours in the day.

Where would you most like to be right now?
Beside a pool with an ice cold beer with all my mates.

Tell us a secret.
I hate being touched when I'm wet.

Jack Shalloo stars in Hamlet! The Musical, which opens at the Northampton Royal and Derngate on May 6th-21st then Richmond Theatre from 24th-28th.

His album London Soul is out now and available to buy from Dress Circle - it's a fun cheeky soul/folk album which is also a concept album for a new musical. Bonus tracks include Picture Book from the off-West End hit Departure Lounge, and Around by Jonathan Eio.

After spending her formative years reading books and ending up with a Masters degree in English literature from King's College London, it was inevitable that Carrie should be a journalist. Her pure and simple delight in the art-form of musical theatre led to the Guardian asking her to be their West End Girl (http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/series/west-end-girl). She's also written for many other UK publications, including the Times and the Independent. She has many eclectic loves, including sport, karaoke, reality television, MMORPGs, three-volume Victorian novels, the British seaside, embroidery and Veronica Mars.
