THE 39 STEPS Hosts Vintage Birthday Tea Party September 9

THE_39_STEPS_Hosts_Vintage_Birthday_Tea_Party_20010101

"The 39 Steps" will celebrate its 4th birthday in the West End on 9th September with a special Vintage Night performance, where the audience are encouraged to come dressed in their finest vintage outfits.

This will be followed by a Vintage Birthday Tea Party, organised by Fiery Angel and Vintage Secret, for special guests after the performance in the gorgeous art nouveau Greene Bar inside the Criterion Theatre, which will be decorated especially for the occasion. Fabulous vintage cakes will be supplied by The Vintage Patisserie (as seen on "Dragons' Den", BBC2) and tea-based cocktails, served in vintage tea pots, by Marquis Vodka.

This hilarious ‘whodunnit', adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maria Aitken, also celebrated another significant milestone recently becoming the longest running consecutive show in the 136-year history of the Criterion Theatre (the Reduced Shakespeare Company, running three different shows during their nine-year residency).

As "The 39 Steps" goes into its 5th year as the West End and New York's longest-running comedy, it has now played in 28 cities worldwide including Moscow, Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris, a US tour and on Broadway and it has recently finished a successful second UK tour.

An hilarious take on the Hitchcock classic, "The 39 Steps" sees our dashing hero, Richard Hannay, stumble into a dangerous tale of cat and mouse from London to Scotland. Accused of murder by Scotland Yard, persued by enemy agents and carrying a secret that could save King and country, Hannay must solve the mystery of The 39 Steps in order to acquit himself and stop a war. Yet the most trying part of the whole tale are the women he encounters, especially Pamela, his unwilling companion to whom he ends up handcuffed during his daring escape. All delivered by a dynamic and hilarious cast of 4 Actors playing 139 characters in 100 minutes.

The current West End cast features Dianne Pilkington, who previously starred in "Wicked" as Glinda the good witch, in the roles of Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret; while David Bark-Jones is Richard Hannay and Timothy Speyer and Jeremy Swift are Man 1 & 2.

Entertaining audiences since 14th September 2006, the multi award-winning production contains every legendary scene from the 1935 classic Hitchcock movie thriller of the same name - including the chase on The Flying Scotsman train, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the sensational death-defying finale in the London Palladium, as well as the memorable and controversial ‘stockings and suspenders' scene.

"The 39 Steps" designs by Peter McKintosh, lighting design by Ian Scott, sound design by Mic Pool and movement by Toby Sedgwick.

"The 39 Steps" is presented by Edward Snape for Fiery Angel Ltd and Tricycle London Productions Ltd in association with the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
