THEATRE TALK: John Partridge Pops The Question

Off the market...

Thrilling if slightly disappointing news for all you John Partridge-lovers out there - the Daily Mail reports that he is getting married to long-term boyfriend Jon Tsouras later this year. Partridge said: "My lovely Jon's Canadian and it's all about when his family can come over, which might be this autumn. We've been together for seven years and it's about time I made an honest man of him."

Partridge, who currently plays love-sick Christian in Eastenders, is a long-time veteran of the West End stage, having performed in shows like Cats and Taboo over a 20-year period. Meanwhile, Tsouras is currently strutting his stuff in Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert as ensemble and first cover for Adam/Felicia. He was previously ensemble in Lord Of The Rings.

Partridge and Canadian-born Tsouras live together in Greenwich, London. In an interview last year with Digital Spy, Partridge said the two originally met in Berlin and came back to the UK to live and work together. He also told the Times Online that Tsouras, along with his house, was his "best investment". Warm fuzzies can be indulged in now. With both enjoying great success in their respective shows at the moment, it seems as if things can only get better for this rather adorable couple.

West End Eurovision

West End Eurovision is almost upon us. But what is it, I hear you cry? Well, it's sort of like the actual Eurovision, except it's all for charity and the talent level is far higher. Basically, you take the majority of the West End's musical theatre companies, ask them each to perform a number and then choose a winner with help from a trio of celebrity judges - previously, this panel has included the illustrious Cheryl Baker - this year, it's Toby Anstis (again), Graham Norton and Sally Ann Triplett.

Mamma Mia took the crown at last year's party, with about £25,000 reportedly raised on the night for charity TheatreMAD, but can this year's entrants (who include Avenue Q, Dreamboats and Petticoats, Legally Blonde and Love Never Dies - see the TheatreMAD website for full details) beat that total? Let's hope so - tickets are available for between £20-30 from Ambassadors for Thursday 20 May (at 11:30pm, though...)

Shakespeare on screen

The Globe is bringing its Shakespearean productions to the masses. Last year's Love's Labour's Lost has just been on our screens at cinemas around the country, and on 14 June As You Like It (one of my favourite productions of all time) takes over Odeon screens in Blackpool, Colchester, Guilford, Harrogate, Kettering, Lincoln, Manchester, Metrocentre, Taunton, Tunbridge Wells, Wimbledon (and breathe). I know I'll be there (for the, cough, seventh viewing, ahem). There's also a fun trailer for Love's Labour's Lost to be found here.

Miriam Zendle is a freelance journalist specialising in arts, music and showbiz journalism. She has written for everyone from the Guardian to the Times and Digital Spy. When not at work, she can be found at the theatre (chirpy musicals and Shakespeare are particular favourites) enjoying a cheesy rom-com or out cycling around Surrey. She is also a keen amateur musician - singing, piano and recorders - though the thought of getting up on stage and doing it professionally... well, the less said about that, the better.
