Horror, comedy, suspense and tragedy combine in Present Moment's interpretation of Christopher Marlowe's Dr Faustus, directed by Joss Bennathan, at Stratford Circus (Circus 1) from 12 January - 6 February 2010. This classic drama is brought to life by a cast of fifteen, set in a modern metropolis where the devil is a puppet master and shadowy figures transform and shape the people and places on Faustus' journey.

Acclaimed theatre company, Present Moment (www.present-moment.co.uk) has established an innovative and exciting approach to the classic repertoire. Previous productions, all directed by Joss Bennathan, include The Country Wife in 1999 at The Bridewell (Time Out Critics' Choice); The Revenger's Tragedy in 2000 also at The Bridewell; The Alchemist in 2002 at Riverside Studios (Top 5 Plays in London in The Independent); and in 2005, Volpone at Wilton's Music Hall. The company's work is acclaimed for pace and clarity, honouring the spirit of the original, revitalising and rendering a piece accessible without dumbing down.

Dr Faustus is played by Babou Ceesay, whose stage credits include The Overwhelming at the National Theatre, and Max Stafford Clark's African Macbeth for Out of Joint. He also co-starred with Danny Dyer in the film ‘Severance'. Mephistopheles is played by Simon Rivers who stars as Ameer in ‘Crash', the BBC medical drama. His recent stage credits include Where's My Desi Soulmate for Rifko Arts at Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Joss Bennathan's other work includes directing the British professional premiere of John Guare's Landscape of the Body at Southwark Playhouse and, as part of the inaugural season of the Latchmere Theatre (now Theatre 503) the British premiere of Blue by Ursula Rani Sarma (Top 5 Plays in London in The Independent). Earlier this year he directed A-Team The Musical which sold out at Edinburgh's Gilded Balloon and is due to transfer to London.
