Songwriting Duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe Join Tim McArthur on 'Curtain Up' Today, July 20

Celebrated British songwriting duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe will be joining Tim McArthur live on Resonance 104.4FM today at 12pm for a very special edition of The Curtain Up Show.

The composer and lyricist, whose new musical Soho Cinders begins previews at the Soho Theatre on 3 August, will discuss their career to date and give budding songwriters and insight into how they became the UK's most successful contemporary musical duo.

The penultimate episode in this series of The Curtain Up Show will showcase some of George and Anthony's greatest musical creations, as well as revealing the songs that inspired them to become songwriters.

This Friday will be Tim McArthur's last Curtain Up Show before the Summer, as he heads to Edinburgh to direct The Night Porters at Paradise In Augustine's and choreograph NewsRevue at the Pleasance Courtyard.

Shona White, who has already featured as a guest on The Curtain Up Show, will be sitting in for Tim on Friday 27 July, when she'll be joined by Michael Simkins, who is currently starring in Yes, Prime Minister at the Trafalgar Studios, as well as cast members from the forthcoming UK premiere of Curtains at the Landor Theatre.

The Curtain Up Show will return to Resonance 104.4fm on Friday 5 October. Over the summer, previous episodes will be made available online each week at www.thecurtainupshow.com in the form of podcasts.

The dynamic musical theatre songwriting partnership that is George Stiles (music) and Anthony Drewe (lyrics) have been writing together since they met at Exeter University over twenty years ago. George and Anthony have written a number of musicals together, including Mary Poppins, Tutankhamun, Just So, Honk!, Peter Pan, Betty Blue Eyes, The Three Little Pigs, and Soho Cinders.

Edgy, fun and deliciously naughty, their new musical Soho Cinders celebrates the capital’s most colourful district and is set to get London’s temperature soaring this summer. When impoverished student Robbie becomes romantically involved with engaged Mayoral candidate James Prince, his lap-dancing step-sisters become the least of his problems! James and Robbie’s worlds collide forcing them to fight for their own fairy-tale ending in this hilarious, satirical twist on the classic Cinderella story. The potent mix of politics, sex-scandals and true love come together in this contemporary musical with an infectious score that you’ll be humming long past the stroke of midnight! Soho Cinders runs at the Soho Theatre from 3 August.

Each week, The Curtain Up Show takes a light-hearted look at the current state of London theatre, showcasing established and up-and-coming talent both on stage and behind the scenes. Guests to date have included Louise Dearman, Susan Vidler, Linda Marlowe, Jasper Britton, Ellen Verenieks, Tim Rogers, Steven Webb, Mark Shenton, Wendi Peters, Mark Petty, Laura Tisdall, Stephen Ashfield, Cassandra Compton, Ben Gerard, Raza Jaffrey, Mark Evans, Shona White, Michael Strassen, Miles Western, David Bedella, Alex Gaumond, Anthony Biggs, Danielle Tarento, Norman Bowman and Laura Pitt-Pulford.
