Russell Grant to Miss Opening Night of MIDNIGHT TANGO Due to Injury

Russell Grant finds himself sharing the dance floor with his favourite partner, Flavia Cacace, along with Vincent Simone, in the West End run of Olivier Award-nominated Midnight Tango, which runs for a strictly limited season at The Phoenix Theatre through 2 March 2013. But according to a recent statement released by a show respresentative, Grant will not be able to partake in opening night.

Due to slipping on Black Ice during rehearsals and injuring his ankle, Russell Grant has so far been unable to perform in Midnight Tango, which began previews at The Phoenix Theatre on 30 January. Sadly, he is still injured and so will miss the opening night of Midnight Tango tonight, Tuesday 5 February. His co-stars and the creators of Midnight Tango, Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, said: "We are so sorry that our dear friend Russell can't join us on stage to perform on the opening night of Midnight Tango, but we look forward to having him join us in the show as soon as he is able to perform again. We wish him a very speedy recovery." One of the show's producers, Arlene Phillips said, "We were looking forward to celebrating Russell's birthday with him tonight. Now, sadly, Russell has been injured and won't be able to perform, which I know upsets him just as much as us. I wish him a speedy recovery, so that he can be back on stage, where he belongs, as soon as possible."

Midnight Tango is directed by Olivier Award-winning choreographer Karen Bruce, who has choreographed for both Strictly Come Dancing and So You Think You Can Dance on BBC 1, and whose theatre credits include Pacific Overtures (Donmar Warehouse) and Footloose (West End and UK Tour). Choreography is by Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, design by Morgan Large and lighting by James Whiteside. The live music will be provided by top tango band, Tango Siempre, featuring vocalist Miguel Angel.

The West End run of Midnight Tango will be followed by a nationwide tour, which will begin at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne on 13 March 2013 and will run until 3 August 2013 at the Grand Theatre, Leeds.
