Wicked has already been seen by over 4.5 million people since its London premiere in 2006 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. It is now one of the Top 20 longest-running musicals in West End history. There are seven productions of Wicked playing concurrently around the world, including the original production in New York, after running more than 8 years. Wicked has now been seen by 33 million people worldwide and grossed $2.7 Billion.
Wicked continues to be the top choice of UK theatregoers having been voted London's Most Popular Show (2010 Olivier Award), Best Night Out (2011 Evening Standard Theatre Award), Best West End Show (2011 and 2010 Whatsonstage.com Awards) and Best New Musical (2007 Whatsonstage.com Awards). Wicked also received a prestigious Visit London ‘People’s Choice’ Gold Award in 2009.
Based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire that re-imagined the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Wicked has music and lyrics by Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman and is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello. Wicked is based on the best-selling novel, "Wicked – The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West", by Gregory Maguire.
