Patrick Stewart to Transfer West End 'Macbeth' to Broadway?

According to the Daily Mail, stage and screen star Patrick Stewart aims to take his acclaimed Macbeth to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in February 2008.

The modernized production of the Shakespeare classic, directed by Rupert Goold, transferred to the West End's Gielgud Theatre on September 21 after a successful turn at the Chichester Festival.  For more information on Macbeth, with performances booked through December 1, call 870 950 0915.

Rupert Goold's acclaimed modern-dress production of the Shakespeare classic which transferred from the Chichester Festival to the West End's Gielgud Theatre on Sept. 21 will arrive at the New York venue in February 2008.

Stewart's most recognized for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the "Star Trek: Next Generation" TV series and films; and also starred in the hit American movie trilogy "X-Men" as Professor Xavier.  Stewart headlined in the Royal Shakespeare Company's The Tempest (directed by Goold) and Anthony and Cleopatra.    Next in his RSC repertoire is the role of Claudius in the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2008 season production of David Tennant's Hamlet.

In addition to his television and cinematic fame, Stewart has an esteemed stage record, including many Broadway and West End performances: West End revivals of A Life in the Theatre by David Mamet, The Master Builder by Ibsen, and The Merchant of Venice with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
