Nyctolopic Presents THE CITY WILL CRUMBLE at Brighton Fringe, May 8-9

THE-CITY-WILL-CRUMBLE-at-Brighton-Fringe-May-8-9-20010101

New dance theatre company Nyctolopic comes to the Brighton Fringe after a successful London debut. Nyctolopic presents The City Will Crumble, a new dance theatre piece with original music, performed at The Warren, Russell Place, Brighton BN1 2RJ, 8th and 9th May 2012, 7pm.

Millions of people walk the streets of the dark city. Sometimes they notice one another; most of the time they pass each other by, driven on by the unrelenting rhythm of the city itself. How can one woman believe that her individual story matters, when the city makes everyone interchangeable, substitutable, and disposable?

Film Noir returns as dance theatre. A choreographer, a composer, and a journalist have together created The City Will Crumble, a vision of the psychological and social dislocation of the mega-city in 2012. After a successful premiere at London’s Courtyard Theatre, they bring The City Will Crumble to the Brighton Fringe.

Nyctolopic is a new London-based company for physical theatre and dance. Its purpose is to advance the arts of dance and theatre by developing, producing, and performing original works. Its international cast is led by the artistic director, Chilean choreographer Ana Marambio. Less than a year old, the company has already received support from the Arts Council of England to create and produce The City Will Crumble.

The City Will Crumble is the company’s first full-length piece. It is a narrative piece that uses original choreography and specially composed music to tell a story inspired by the philosophy underpinning film noir and the creators’ own impressions of the challenges of life in the modern megacity today.

The creators are Ana Marambio, a Chilean dancer and choreographer, David Holyoake, a British-Australian composer, and Martin Sandbu, a Norwegian born academic and Financial Times journalist.

Brighton Fringe is the third largest open-access multi-art form festival in the world. Fringe 2012 will run from May 5 – 27.
