Glyndebourne on Tour booking opens -Robin Ticciati's final season as Music Director

Now in its 41st year, Glyndebourne on Tour (GOT) presents three productions for its 2009 touring programme. Booking is now open.

Incorporating both new and familiar productions, GOT is led once again by Robin Ticciati, now in the final year of his tenure as Music Director.

Mozart's Così fan tutte, a revival of the 2006 Glyndebourne Festival production, will be conducted by Patrick Lange, a former assistant to Claudio Abbado and currently Kappellmeister at the Berlin Komische Oper. Gillian Ramm, the understudy for Fiordiligi in the 2007 Festival who went on to sing the majority of the performances with great success, will make her Tour debut in a return to the role.

Verdi's Falstaff will be brought to the stage following its successful run at this summer's Festival. Originally directed by Olivier Award winner Richard Jones, this revival will be conducted for the Tour by American James Gaffigan in his UK opera debut. Bass-baritone Jonathan Veira will sing Falstaff in the title role.

Janá?ek's Jen?fa was first staged by Nikolaus Lehnhoff at the Festival in 1989, the second in the director's hugely successful series of Janá?ek operas at Glyndebourne. This latest revival is conducted for the Tour by Robin Ticciati. Belfast-born soprano Giselle Allen makes her company debut in the title role.

In 2008 over 48,000 people attended GOT performances; with the Tour continuing to be made possible thanks to the long-standing support of Arts Council England. After a three- week run at Glyndebourne, GOT travels to Woking (3rd -7th November), Stoke-On-Trent (10th-14th November), Norwich (17th-21st November), Milton Keynes (24th-28th November) and Plymouth (1st-5th December).

GOT 2009 will also revive its hugely successful initiative of Performances For Schools, offering students of various age-groups access to two performances at Glyndebourne.

A wickedly seductive comedy, L'elisir d'amore is now regarded by some as Mozart's finest opera. Nicholas Hytner's elegantly classical 2006 Glyndebourne Festival production returns to the Tour.

Revival director Ashley Dean makes his Tour debut, having directed Night Pieces for the 2008 Jerwood Chorus Development Scheme at Glyndebourne.
Following her appearances as Fiordiligi in the 2007 Festival, Australian soprano Gillian Ramm reprises the role for her Tour debut.

The role of Dorabella will be sung by Italian mezzo-soprano Lucia Cirillo, who sang, among other roles for Glyndebourne, Valletto in the 2008 Festival production of L'incoronazione di Poppea.

British tenor Andrew Tortise returns to the role of Ferrando following his appearance in the 2006 Tour. A graduate of Trinity College Cambridge, he also performed in the 2007 and 2008 Festivals.

There is a chance to see South African baritone Jacques Imbrailo as Guglielmo before he makes his Festival debut in the tile role of the 2010 production of Billy Budd.
Born in Bucharest, soprano Simona Mihai will sing the role of Despina. A member of the Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, her roles include Virtù in the 2008 Festival production of L'incoronazione di Poppea.

Falstaff
Verdi's final opera, Italian lyric comedy Falstaff, centres on the disagreeable yet loveable Sir John, and follows his plans to seduce two local women and the inevitable fall out that follows as they exact their wiley revenge.

Richard Jones' production, new to this year's Festival, will be revived for the Tour by Sarah Fahie. This follows Jones' 2007 Festival production of Macbeth, also taken to the Tour the same year.

Jonathan Veira, a much-loved Glyndebourne artist for over 20 years, leads the cast as the larger-than-life Falstaff. As well as performing internationally, the bass-baritone has sung in nine separate Festival operas and eight Tour productions.
A graduate of the La Scala Young Artists' Programme, Italian baritone Guido Loconsolo follows his UK debut as Achilla in this year's Glyndebourne Festival production of Giulio Cesare singing Ford.

Singing the role of Fenton, Connecticut-born Nicholas Phan makes his first Tour appearance. The tenor made his professional opera debut with Glimmerglass Opera as a member of their Young American Artist Program.

Making her UK debut, Russian soprano Elena Tsallagova sings the role of Nannetta. She sang the title role in The Cunning Little Vixen at Opéra National de Paris in 2008 before beginning a two-year term with the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich.

A shocking tale of misdirected love, violent jealousy, moral cowardice and desperate infanticide, Janá?ek's Jen?fa was the second in director Nikolaus Lehnhoff's hugely successful series of Janá?ek operas at Glyndebourne.
Robin Ticciati conducts this revival from the 1989 Glyndebourne Festival. Now in his final year as GOT Music Director, Ticciati will become principal conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra from September 2009.

Belfast-born soprano Giselle Allen will sing the title role in her Glyndebourne debut. She has sung at opera houses including La Monnaie, Komische Oper Berlin and English National Opera.

Mezzo-soprano Anne Mason returns to the Tour to sing the role of the Kostelni?ka. She has also performed in the Festival on numerous occasions.

Peter Wedd sings the role of Laca Kleme?. The tenor was a company principal at the Royal Opera House and since then has performed with Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, Opera Australia and Houston Grand Opera.

In a return to the Tour, mezzo-soprano Susan Gorton will sing Grandmother Burya following her role as Florence Pike in the 2008 Festival production of Albert Herring. Susan replaces Anne Collins, who unfortunately had to withdraw from the role.

Throughout the Tour Glyndebourne Education works with over 70 schools and 3000 students and teachers in all Tour venues.

OPERA EXPERIENCE WORKSHOPS

Opera Experience workshops, led by a team of artists from Glyndebourne, are designed to introduce secondary school students to opera through a range of engaging workshop activities, followed by attendance at a Glyndebourne on Tour performance. For the past six years, Glyndebourne Education has also led highly successful workshops in primary schools. Opera Experience is supported by Arts Council England.

Performances For Schools are an exciting opportunity to introduce students to opera, by providing them with their own particular chance to watch an unabridged live performance at Glyndebourne. GLYNDEBOURNE DAY SCHOOL

Designed to enhance the audience's enjoyment and understanding of the opera, this year's study event, based on Janá?ek's Jen?fa, takes place at Glyndebourne and includes speakers and artists including GOT Music Director Robin Ticciati.
