Jonathan Ansell, well known from The X Factor pop opera group G4, will play the lead role of Charles Darnay in a new musical version of A Tale of Two Cities, running at The Charing Cross Theatre from 5 April until 12 May. The full cast will be announced shortly.

Jonathan Ansell first shot to fame with The X Factor group G4 but since they disbanded in 2007 he has established himself as a successful solo artist. Last year saw him performing in the US with Marvin Hamlisch and his orchestra in a round of sell out concerts as well as his first nationwide solo tour. Other notable musical performances include Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Birthday Concert in Hyde Park and in Lyrics by Don Black at the Palladium. Jonathan’s stage credits include Whistle Down the Wind, Lark Rise to Candleford and Beauty and the Beast for New World Productions.

A Tale of Two Cities is being staged in celebration of the bicentenary of Charles Dickens. Directed by Paul Nicholas this new musical version of the Dickens classic has music by multi platinum award-winner David Pomeranz, book by Emmy winner Steven David Horwich and David Soames, lyrics by Steven David Horwich and musical arrangements by John Cameron.

Based on the much loved Dickens story, this classic tale depicts one man’s ultimate sacrifice for love, set against the backdrop of the French revolution and the comparative calm of 18th Century London society.
