Emma Cunniffe, Mariah Gale and More to Lead PROOF at the Menier Chocolate Factory

Emma Cunniffe, Mariah Gale, Matthew Marsh and Jamie Parker star in PROOF by David Auburn which begins performances at the Menier Chocolate Factory on the 14 March 2013.

Polly Findlay directs David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play fresh from receiving critical plaudits for Antigone (National Theatre) and A Taste of Honey (Sheffield Theatres).

Catherine has cared for her father Robert, a renowned mathematician, through his mental illness for the past five years. His ex-student, Hal, discovers a ground-breaking proof in Robert's office but the question is posed: who is the real author of this brilliant work? Catherine struggles to solve this as well the most perplexing problem of all: how much of her father's madness - or genius - has she inherited?
Mariah Gale plays Catherine. Theatre includes: Three Sisters (Young Vic), Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet - with David Tennant (RSC), 'Tis Pity She's A Whore (Southwark Playhouse) - First Prize Ian Charleson Award, Time Out Live Award for Best Newcomer, Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Newcomer (2005). Television includes: Skins and Oliver Twist.

Jamie Parker, who plays Hal, comes to the Menier Chocolate Factory after his much lauded performances as Prince Hal in Henry IV Parts 1 &2 (2010) and Henry V (2012) at the Globe. Jamie's other credits include the original cast of The History Boys at The National Theatre, on Broadway and on film; Racing Demon (Sheffield) and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Chichester /Theatre Royal Haymarket). Television and film credits include: Parade's End, The Hour and Valkyrie.

Emma Cunniffe plays Claire. Her credits include Conquest of the South Pole (Arcola), The Crucible (Regent's Park Open Air Theatre), Dumb Show (Rose, Kingston), Losing Louis (Hampstead and Trafalgar Studios), Educating Rita (Citizens Theatre Glasgow) and The Entertainer (Old Vic).Television includes: The Lakes, Good Cop and Southcliffe.

Matthew Marsh, who plays Robert, has appeared at The National Theatre in The Last of the Haussmans, Blood and Gifts, The Overwhelming (with Out of Joint) and Michael Frayn's Copenhagen, which transferred to the Duchess Theatre where it ran for over 750 performances. Other theatre includes Glengarry Glen Ross (Apollo), No Naughty Bits and Us and Them (Hampstead), Bingo and A Prayer for My Daughter (Young Vic) and The Exonerated (Riverside). Television and film includes: Spooks, Luther, Spygame and The Iron Lady.

Design is by Helen Goddard (The Village Bike - Royal Court, Steel Magnolias - Dublin / Bath, The Country Wife - Manchester Royal Exchange). Lighting design is by Paul Anderson (The Master and Margarita - Complicité/Barbican; Talent, Terrible Advice and Torch Song Trilogy - Chocolate Factory). Sound design is by Gregory Clarke (A Flea in Her Ear - Old Vic, Journey's End - West End, Broadway and UK tour, Earthquakes in London - National and Equus - Gielgud / Broadway - Tony award for Sound Design).
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday 29 January.
