Charing Cross Theatre Presents THE MAN ON HER MIND, Opening 11 September

Charing Cross Theatre will present the world premiere of THE MAN ON HER MIND, a new comedy by Alan Hruska, which opens on Tuesday 11 September 2012, previewing from 5 September. The limited season ends on 27 October.

American writer and director, Alan Hruska’s new comedy is an exploration of the age-old story of girl meets boy… or does she? For her, the image taps into her dreams. For him, it’s an equally enchanting but otherworldly experience. Then reality intervenes. For both – or is it the four of them?

Alan Hruska began life as a top US litigator, representing various institutions, public and private, cabinet members and industry leaders, including Time Inc., CBS, IBM, The Washington Post, Walter Cronkite, Sam Walton (the founder of Walmart), Henry Kissinger and Bill Simon (Treasury Secretary). He handled a wide range of civil litigation and built statutes in half the country’s states regarding the protection of writers and the newsman’s privilege of not revealing confidential sources.

While still an attorney, Alan had his first novel, Borrowed Time, published in 1985 by Doubleday, and, the following year, he co-founded the New York book publishing company, Soho Press. Since leaving the Law in 2002, he has written and directed three films, Nola (2003), The Warrior Class (2007) and Reunion (2009). His second novel, Wrong Man Running, was published in 2011 and became the number one selling e-book in the UK. Alan’s first venture into theatre was directing an Actors Studio, off-Broadway revival of Waiting for Godot in 2005. His first play, New House Under Construction, was staged off-Broadway in 2008/09.

The cast will include Amy McAllister, Samuel James, Georgia Mackenzie and Shane Attwooll. Amy McAllister’s most notable television role was as Mary in the BBC drama Call the Midwife. She has also featured in Emmerdale and Holby City. This will be her West End stage debut. Samuel James’s work at The National Theatre includes Rupert Goold’s Decade, Peter Hall’s Twelfth Night and Marianne Elliott’s Women Beware Women. His TV work includes Jimmie in EastEnders (2011-2012) and Marshall in The Shadow Line. Although Georgia Mackenzie has appeared in plays at the Hampstead, Soho, Arcola, Kings Head, Gate and Bush Theatres, this will be her West End debut. Her television work includes Waterloo Road, Honest, Murphy’s Law and Outlaws, and films include the lead in the horror movie Steel Trap, sci-fi thriller The Kovak Box and Possession starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Aaron Eckhart. Shane Attwooll’s previous theatre work includes Enron, Shawshank Redemption, Piaf, Glengarry Glen Ross, Death of a Salesman, The Buddy Holly Story (all West End); Cyrano de Bergerac (Chichester); The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (Almeida). His most recent television role was as Billy Blake in the Julian Fellowes mini-series Titanic.

THE MAN ON HER MIND will be directed by Bruce Guthrie and designed by Emma Bailey, with Tom Piper as design consultant. Lighting will be by Matt Haskins, sound by Mike Walker and movement direction by Jack Murphy.

THE MAN ON HER MIND is produced at Charing Cross Theatre by Steven M. Levy, Sean Sweeney and Petina Cole.
