Joining the already announced Anthony Andrews as Professor Higgins, and Annalene Beechey as Eliza, acclaimed British actors Alun Armstrong, James Fleet and Siân Phillips are to join glittering stars of the stage Jenny Galloway and Julian Ovenden at the BBC Proms performance of Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady on 14 July 2012.
The semi-staged production is directed by Shaun Kerrison and conducted by John Wilson with the John Wilson Orchestra.
Annalene Beechey: Beechey has made many concert and radio appearances, including on BBC Radio 3’s Friday Night is Music Night. She also appeared at the BBC Proms last year alongside the John Wilson Orchestra in 'Hooray for Hollywood'. She is a popular West End performer, having starred in Marguerite, Les Miserables, Beauty & the Beast and Wicked as well as in the 2004 film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.
Anthony Andrews: Andrews received worldwide recognition for his portrayal of Sebastian Flyte in Brideshead Revisited for which he won a British Academy Award, a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for Best Actor. He is delighted to have taken part in four major concerts with John Wilson, including appearances with the Northern Sinfonia, the Liverpool Philharmonic and the RTÉ in Dublin. He first played Henry Higgins at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and his most recent appearance in a West End musical was his portrayal of Count Fosco in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Woman in White at the Palace Theatre.
Alun Armstrong: In a career starting in the 1970s, Armstrong's numerous accolades include nine years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, seven different Dickens adaptations and eight series of New Tricks. He also boasts a background in musicals, having originated the role of Thénardier in the London production of Les Misérables and winning an Olivier Award for his performance as Sweeney Todd.
James Fleet: Fleet has appeared many times on the London stage, most recently in The Heretic at the Royal Court and The Ladykillers in the West End.
Siân Phillips: Phillips' work spans a multitude of stage, West End, film and television performances, including winning a BAFTA for her appearance as Livia in BBC2's I Claudius. She appeared as Ursula Mossbank in the film Goodbye, Mr. Chips and in the BBC One dramas Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People.
Julian Ovenden: Ovenden is well-known for playing leading roles in television on both sides of the Atlantic, including Foyle's War and The Forsythe Saga. He has appeared in the West End and on Broadway as well as previous BBC Proms appearances which include the 2010 Rodgers and Hammerstein Prom and the Sondheim at 80 Prom alongside Judi Dench.
Jenny Galloway: Parts in the most iconic musicals are included in Galloway's repertoire, ranging from Les Misérables, Oliver!, Sweeney Todd and Mary Poppins to her Olivier award-winning performance in Mamma Mia! Galloway has also appeared in popular British films including Johnny English and About a Boy.
