"Without You: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and the Musical Rent," published on the Simon & Schuster label, begins with Rapp's audition for the original workshop of the late Jonathan Larson's Rent and continues through the show's chaotic journey to Broadway and the phenomenal success the musical - about a group of friends in New York's East Village - achieved. Rapp candidly discusses his life at the time, including his relationships as well as his mother's battle with cancer and her ultimate, heartbreaking death.
