AN INCIDENT AT THE BORDER Makes West End Debut, August 22

Following a sold-out run at the Finborough Theatre, the world premiere production of Kieran Lynn's dark comedy, AN INCIDENT AT THE BORDER, will transfer to the West End's Trafalgar Studios 2, opening on Wednesday 22 August, with previews from 20 August, for a strictly limited season until 15 September 2012. The production is directed by Bruce Guthrie and stars Tom Bennett as Arthur, Florence Hall as Olivia and Marc Pickering as Reiver.

A couple, who have gone for a romantic walk in the park, suddenly find themselves on opposite sides of a new border. Under the rigorous eyes of a border guard, they find themselves caught between two nations on the verge of war.

Playwright Kieran Lynn has been a member of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme and the Old Vic 24 Hour Plays. He recently completed a year-long attachment at Hampstead Theatre, where his play The Recurring Rise and Fall was presented. Last year, his play Pushing Up Poppies played at the Edinburgh Fringe after two successful runs at Theatre503 in London. AN INCIDENT AT THE BORDER was recently broadcast on BBC Radio 4. This will be Kieran's first play to be staged in the West End.

Director Bruce Guthrie's recent credits include Twelfth Night in Singapore, Gloucestershire at the Arcola, Stories by Heart at The National Theatre, The Long and the Short and the Tall at the Pleasance and Someone Who'll Watch Over Me at the Venue, Leicester Square. He was associate director to Sam Mendes on The Bridge Project's Richard III starring Kevin Spacey at the Old Vic and on an international tour.

Tom Bennett is best known as Christopher in E4's Phoneshop. On stage, he previously appeared in Kieran Lynn's Pushing up Poppies at Theatre 503. Florence Hall's theatre work includes Birdsong at the Comedy Theatre and You May Go Now – A Marriage Play at the Finborough. Marc Pickering starred opposite Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow and opposite Helen Mirren and Julie Walters in Calendar Girls when a child actor. More recently, his theatre work includes The Merchant of Venice at the Arcola, The Elephant Man at Trafalgar Studios and The Long and the Short and the Tall at the Pleasance, and, on television, he starred in Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor.

AN INCIDENT AT THE BORDER is designed by Sophia Simensky, with lighting by Humphrey McDermott, music by Zands Duggan and Louise Morgan, and sound by Paul Roberts. It is presented in the West End by Stephen McGill.
