2012: West End Stars Tell Us What They're Wishing For This Year!

2012-West-End-Stars-Tell-Us-What-Theyre-Wishing-For-This-Year-20010101

We asked some of our favourite West End folk what they're wishing for in 2012...

Scott Garnham (BWW:UK 2011 Award winner, Les Miserables): "I know it's prob not till 2013 but I'm very excited by 'The Book of Mormon' coming over and I would love to play Alder Price in it."

Jack Shalloo (Departure Lounge, Hamlet! The Musical): "I want to work at the Young Vic - I love it there. Be it play or musical - just think it's a very exciting place."

Nancy Sullivan (Les Miserables, Never Forget): "To work at The National Theatre or Royal Court - or both!"

Andrew Wright (choreographer, Singin' In The Rain): "That no one falls over whilst dancing in the rain every night!"

Rebecca Caine (original Cosette, Les Miserables): "More shows that are not based on well known movies. It seems greedy and unimaginative to me. More money put into the development of new writers and composers. It seems to me that a great deal of money is donated for MT students and it seems pointless unless they have new work to perform in. Some very good people out there that no one will take a chance on. The resurgence of the soprano voice in musicals, of course! Let me be more specific and say some foxy roles for sopranos d'certain age!"

Claire Greenway (Sister Act original cast): "I would love to be in a play, it's the one medium I haven't started in yet. Last year was firsts for film and TV, I want to tick that off now! Oh, and I've put it out into the universe that I WILL be in Downton Abbey - can anyone out there fix it for me?"

LeAnne Jones (Olivier Award winner for Hairspray): "I just hope to continue working in this industry which I love so much! 2011 was a good year for me, bring on 2012."

Ben Goddard (Million Dollar Quartet, Sunset Boulevard): "Hope theatre land isn't too affected by the Olympics!"

Lucy Trodd (Showstopper! The Improvised Musical): "My theatre-related hope is that acting/musical theatre becomes an Olympic sport like it used to be at upper school on sports day. Also me and my comrades want to open a theatre solely for the study and performance of Improvised Arts."

LIVE UPDATE: NEWSIES, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, FOLLIES & THE BOOK OF MORMON Are in the Lead...

After spending her formative years reading books and ending up with a Masters degree in English literature from King's College London, it was inevitable that Carrie should be a journalist. Her pure and simple delight in the art-form of musical theatre led to the Guardian asking her to be their West End Girl (http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/series/west-end-girl). She's also written for many other UK publications, including the Times and the Independent. She has many eclectic loves, including sport, karaoke, reality television, MMORPGs, three-volume Victorian novels, the British seaside, embroidery and Veronica Mars.
