2012: West End Stars Tell Us The Shows They're Most Looking Forward To This Year!

2012-West-End-Stars-Tell-Us-The-Shows-Theyre-Most-Looking-Forward-To-This-Year-20010101

We asked some of our favourite West End folk what they're looking forward to seeing in 2012...

LeAnne Jones (Olivier Award winner for Hairspray): "The Book of Mormon, Bridget Jones! I still haven't seen Matilda but I got tickets for Christmas so going at the end of January!"

Jack Shalloo (Departure Lounge, Hamlet! The Musical): "She Stoops to Conquer at the National and In Basildon at the Royal Court."

Lucy Trodd (Showstopper! The Improvised Musical): "I have already booked my tickets for Fascinating Aida (Sarah-Louise from Showstopper is currently in it), Matilda, a gala performance of Children of Eden at Prince of Wales, Mamma Mia to see my husband Oliver (Oliver Senton) again, The Ladykillers and The House of Bernarda Alba (my friend Hara Yannas is in it- she is one to watch). I haven't booked yet to see Michael Ball in Sweeney Todd but I will!"

Claire Greenway (original London cast, Sister Act): "I'm seeing Matilda at the end of this week, I'm v excited! I'm a huge Tim Minchin fan. I've missed a lot of theatre this year (I should be struck off the theatre geek list), so I need to see Jerusalem and One Man, Two Guvnors, as well as Ghost and Rock of Ages! As for new things, Sweeney Todd is top of my list."

Andrew Wright (choreographer, Singin' In The Rain): "Apart from Singin' In The Rain of course it will have to be a second visit to Matilda."

Scott Garnham (BWW:UK Award winner, Les Miserables): "I'm most looking forward to seeing Sweeney Todd because I think it's a fantastic score, I have never seen it professionally and because of Imelda Staunton - obviously."

Rebecca Caine (original Cosette, Les Miserables): "Sweeney Todd! Possibly my favourite musical along with West Side Story. I know Michael Ball will be a knock out."

Nancy Sullivan (Les Miserables, Never Forget): "Matilda. I loved it when I saw it in Stratford and SO excited to see it again in the West End. Also new writing at smaller venues The Hampstead, Royal Court and Southwark Playhouse, I always love seeing smaller scale shows."

LIVE UPDATE: NEWSIES, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, FOLLIES & THE BOOK OF MORMON Are in the Lead...

After spending her formative years reading books and ending up with a Masters degree in English literature from King's College London, it was inevitable that Carrie should be a journalist. Her pure and simple delight in the art-form of musical theatre led to the Guardian asking her to be their West End Girl (http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/series/west-end-girl). She's also written for many other UK publications, including the Times and the Independent. She has many eclectic loves, including sport, karaoke, reality television, MMORPGs, three-volume Victorian novels, the British seaside, embroidery and Veronica Mars.
